The inaugural Harness Day with Dad event took place on Friday 1st September, just in time for Father’s Day, with support from Easternwell, QGC (operated by Shell) and Savanna Energy Services.
This event provided FIFO and DIDO workers with a way to show their families what they do when they’re at work by enabling Dad and kids alike to try their hand on a rig simulator, fire extinguisher simulator and confined space simulator!
“My son loved it. Thank you. He has never really known what my husband does for a job (driller on an oil rig)” – Day with Dad attendee.
The Day with Dad event was also proud to promote the R U OK campaign to support the health and wellbeing of FIFO and DIDO workers. As FIFO and DIDO work practices become more common and workers are being separated from their family and friend support networks, R U OK has created a range of resources to encourage workmates to back each other by asking “are you ok?” These resources can be viewed on the R U OK website.
“This was the first Day with Dad and it is a great initiative to promote mental health awareness amongst the FIFO / DIDO community.” – Michael O’Reilly, Harness CEO.
